McKinsey Global Survey of Business Executives: Economic and hiring outlook, July 2007

  • Executives worldwide plan to continue hiring. The trend of offshoring jobs to low-wage economies, however, may be shifting.
  • Most new jobs will be located in the same country as the company’s headquarters. Among the minority of executives who say that most of their companies’ new jobs will be created abroad, more than three-quarters expect those jobs to consist of new functions. Outsourcing will account for only 20 percent of the jobs to be eliminated.
  • Outside North America, executives express confidence in their countries’ economic prospects, despite a growing threat of inflation.
  • Respondents don’t see much opportunity to raise prices, even where inflation is expected to increase the most.
This collection of exhibits displays respondents’ views on their country’s economy as well as expectations for their workforce.
