When people in most parts of the world want to buy a personal computer, they usually think first of well-known brands like Compaq, Dell Computer, and IBM. Not so in China. There the brand of choice is called Legend. And it will soon become a brand of choice in other countries as well, at least if Legend chairman Liu Chuanzhi has his way. Since 1984, Liu has built his company into China's (and Asia's) number one maker of PCs, with some $3 billion in revenue. Along the way, he's inked a high-profile joint venture with AOL and pioneered the use of stock options in China. Next up: doubling revenues by 2004.
