During the past three months, expectations of inflation rose sharply among the executives in The McKinsey Quarterly’s global survey on economic and hiring trends. Especially in developed countries, the executives expect economic conditions to deteriorate over the next half year.
Nonetheless, many executives say that their companies plan to hire and to raise investments in recruitment and training in the near term.
Executives in the developing world remain upbeat about future economic conditions in their countries. Executives around the world say that high energy prices are driving inflation.

Efforts to reduce climate change can profoundly affect the valuations of many companies, but executives so far seem largely unaware.
